Discovery workflow

A two-step Claude workflow for deposition preparation

Build a claim-by-claim preparation memo from the pleadings and likely exhibits, then condense it into a simpler presentation for the client.

Practice note

Use the same care you would with any client file.

Before uploading pleadings, exhibits, or client information, confirm that the tool, account, and settings are approved for the matter. Protect confidentiality and privilege, and personally validate every summary, quotation, and document excerpt.

Hey lawyers, use this two-step workflow to help prepare your client for a deposition.

1. Build a Claim-by-Claim Preparation Memo

First, upload a complaint or some kind of memo that has the claims in it. Second, upload all the documents that may be exhibits at the deposition. Then run this prompt:

Help me prepare my client for his deposition.

Start with five deposition tips.

Provide a brief outline of the facts to jog his memory.

Then go claim by claim and pick the most important documents.

Use bullet points.

2. Condense the Reviewed Memo for the Client

You run that, and you're going to end up with, well, a comprehensive memo that may just be too comprehensive. That's where the second part comes in.

Now ask Claude to take that memo and turn it into a PowerPoint. By choosing the PowerPoint format, it naturally limits the amount of information it can give, and Claude writes much clearer, much more succinct bullet points. It will also take snippets of important documents.

Run those two workflows to help prepare for your next client deposition, and follow me for more tips on how to use AI in your legal practice.
